01 Introduction and operator
Daily Discomfort offers personalized daily quests that encourage small, real-world experiences. You can reflect on a quest and optionally keep a photo with an experience.
Daily Discomfort is operated by Robert Ashraf, operating as Daily Discomfort. This policy explains how the iOS app, website, and privacy or support correspondence handle information.
02 Information stored on your device
The app does not require an account. It stores the following locally on your device:
- Comfort-zone answers, interests, unfinished onboarding answers, and appearance preferences.
- Daily quest assignments, saved and replaced quests, and replacement counts.
- Quest outcomes, reflection choices, and experience history, including dates and timestamps.
- Optional experience photos and references to those local files.
The app does not ask for your name, email address, or date of birth to use these features. Reflections are selected responses, not a free-text journal.
03 Personalization
Quest selection uses your comfort-zone answers, interests, and earlier quest outcomes and reflections. This personalization happens on your device. These records are not uploaded to a developer-operated backend.
04 Photos and permissions
Photos are optional. You can use the system photo picker to choose a photo or allow camera access to take one. You can complete an experience without a photo or camera permission.
Saving an experience with a photo copies it into app-owned local storage. The picker may also create temporary files. Photo files may retain embedded information from the camera or photo library; the app does not promise to remove all metadata.
Save to Photos requests permission to add a separate copy to your iOS Photos library. That copy belongs to your library and is managed through Photos and your Apple settings. You can manage camera and photo permissions in iOS Settings.
06 Website hosting and email correspondence
This website is prepared for hosting on GitHub Pages. Once published there, GitHub will process visitor information to provide the service. GitHub states that it logs and stores visitor IP addresses for security purposes. Read GitHub’s Pages data-collection notice and GitHub’s Privacy Statement.
Our own website code adds no analytics, tracking, cookies, third-party embeds, or external fonts. This does not mean the hosting provider receives no information.
If you email support or privacy, we receive your email address and whatever information or attachments you choose to provide. We use that correspondence to respond to your request and address related support, legal, or security matters.
Both contact addresses use Spaceship email forwarding, with Gmail (Google) as the receiving email service. Spaceship and Google process the messages to deliver and handle our correspondence. Read Google’s Privacy Policy. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
07 Data retention and deletion
Experience history has no automatic expiry period. It remains in local storage until it is replaced, reset, or removed with the app’s data.
- Reset Progress clears experience history, reflections, daily assignments, saved and replaced quests, and app-owned saved experience photos. Your onboarding preferences and appearance setting remain.
- Reset Onboarding clears setup answers and restarts onboarding. Experiences, saved photos, daily assignments, and appearance remain.
Photo cleanup can be incomplete if the device cannot delete a file. Temporary picker files are managed separately from saved experience photos.
App resets do not delete photos exported to the iOS Photos library or copies retained in backups. Manage those through Photos and your backup settings. Deleting the app, rather than offloading it, removes its local app data; separately retained copies may remain.
Support and privacy-request correspondence is generally retained for up to 12 months, unless longer retention is necessary for legitimate support, legal, or security purposes.
08 Device backups and security
The app does not offer its own cloud backup, account recovery, or cross-device synchronization. Depending on your settings, device backups and Apple photo services may retain or synchronize photo copies. We do not control those services or have access to your Apple account.
Daily Discomfort relies on iOS application isolation and your device’s security protections. It does not add its own encryption layer to stored preferences and history. No storage system can guarantee absolute security. Keep your device protected and up to date.
09 Intended audience and children’s privacy
Daily Discomfort is intended for people aged 16 and older and is not directed to children under 16. It does not ask for a user’s age or date of birth. The local data practices described above apply to everyone using the app.
If you have a concern about a child’s information sent to us, contact the privacy address below. The 16+ audience is a product decision, not a statement of an independently established App Store age rating.
10 Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our privacy practices change and show the effective date of the published policy. This version is a draft for review; no effective date has been assigned.
